Refugee Relief
While Seoul USA explicitly stays out of the defection business, we regularly learn of Christians who are in the process of leaving North Korea to escape persecution or capture. Often, these Christians pay brokers to aid their escape only to have the brokers leave them behind once they reach China, because the Christians are often viewed as a greater risk. Other times its simply that North Korean Christians face obstacles when trying to enter South Korea that they are ill-equipped to overcome. It’s in situations like these that SUSA is poised to act, to use our networks and contacts to get these refugees to safety, typically to South Korea, and help them get established and adapt to their new lives. We provide aid to these believers in distress in the form of transportation, brokers’ fees/court fees, visa fees and food and lodging.
