Peeps Update
"Pray for Good Winds!"
Here’s a quick update on the Peeps launch from Pastor Foley:
On Monday, December 19, North Korea announced that Kim Jong Il had died two days earlier (on the day of our Underground University graduation, no less!). Within an hour of the announcement, we received a call from the South Korean police asking us not to launch balloons into North Korea. They didn’t want to do anything to provoke their northern neighbor during the transition process.
Understandable from a political standpoint—and yet as Peter and John told the Jewish leaders in Acts 4:20, “We can’t stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” So we hopped on a boat and launched our balloons from international waters, off the coast of North Korea. What a wild ride!
We weren’t able to launch the Peeps from the open ocean (we need a different kind of balloon for sea launches), but we were thankful to be able to send the gospel into North Korea at this crucial time—our own gift to North Korea at the passing of their leader.
As for the Peeps launch, we were praying—hard!—for still being able to launch on Christmas Eve (even though the police may not have been praying the same way!).
Unfortunately, however, God did not grant us favorable winds on Christmas Eve—and has not yet granted us favorable winds for the launch.
Now, don’t despair: The winds are especially unpredictable from November through March, so launch delays this time of year happen. They’re not unusual. We receive it from the Lord and will wait on his perfect timing. It’s kind of like space shuttle launches: You get all dressed up in your space suit and buckled into the rocket. Sometimes you sit there all day waiting for the skies to clear (and—in our case—we watch all night!), but they don’t. So you wake up and do the same thing the next day. And the next day. And one day the Lord opens the clouds and off you go.
That said, please join me in praying fervently each day for the Lord to grant us favorable winds for the launch!
I’ll keep you updated on the Peeps launch through this page and the Prayer Partner Update (you’re signed up, right?). And I thank God for your prayers and financial partnership in this special Christmas launch.
Warmly in Christ,
Pastor Foley
